Over the past six months our garden team have been hard at work, establishing our organic garden on the farm. It is located near to Goat Tower and includes various vegetables, herbs, flowers and trees. The project is coming along well aside from the peacocks eating a number of the crops!

On Saturday the 2nd of October a group of young people came to Fairview armed with a tree, a camera and very good intentions. They were from the 350.org, an organisation aiming to educate people on climate change and take steps to reduce carbon emissions. The 350.org was started in the USA as an international campaign building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis. They involve large amounts of young people across the globe to create awareness and rally for change. On the 10th of the 10th 2010, groups all around the world made a concerted and collaborative start. One of their projects is tree planting. We planted the tree in the new organic garden, where it stands happily surrounded by other indigenous trees. The tree is a Olea Europaea subsp Africana, better known as a Wild Olive or Olienhout. It is hardy and resistant to drought. The tree was kindly sponsored by Dr Boomslang nursery.
